Eastern Illinois Food Bank Needs Our Help!

We need your help distributing food at 2 upcoming Foodmobile distributions.

A Foodmobile is a mobile food pantry distribution focused on alleviating hunger in rural areas. Volunteers are needed to set up the food distribution area, hand out product to recipients, help recipients carry product to their cars, and clean up after the distribution is over.  Every foodmobile has at least one Foodmobile Captain.  This is a volunteer who has been trained on foodmobile distributions and will be the main contact and volunteer coordinator on the day of the foodmobile. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the distribution site.

We are currently in need of volunteers to help on the following distribution dates:

Saturday, August 8
8:45am – 12:15pm
Volunteers must arrive at 8:45am

The District Governor will be here next Thursday.   Rotary Leadership Conference is August 15.  Contact Cathy Rector or Rod Roberts for more information.

Rod has openings for the Habitat build on August 15 and September 12.  He is also looking for people to help man the Beer Tent at the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival.

See Molly for $5 tickets to Applebees for breakfast on August 15 as a CU Schools Foundation fund raiser.

 

Program:  Club Assembly

 

Some suggestions:

A tour of the new golf facility as a possible program

Central Interact Club be included in more community service activities

Club involvement in RYLA

Greater use of social media to publicize the club

An alternative to the fruit sale that would bring in $10,000,  which would be a 1 day event

An alternative way to distribute the fruit such as a central pick up location for those who purchased fruit

 

Shelterbox Report:

Nepal remains a current concern for Shelterbox due to topography.  Our district has contributed $40,000 of the $2.5 million from Shelterbox USA.  Shelterbox  has served 250 disasters since its inception.  Our district is the first to form a District Committee.  Volunteers are needed to speak to service clubs and our members would be welcome.  See Gary if you are interested.
