Jim Gould announced that Tanya and Peter will be participating in One Winter’s Night on February 1 from 6pm to 6am. The fundraiser will be held in downtown Champaign and on campus this year and supports shelter for the homeless programs through the organization CU at Home. You can donate online at www.cuathome.us.

 

Rod and Lou are tracking our volunteer hours with a goal this year of 500. We are at 278 ½ so are well on our way. Make sure that Lou knows each month about your CU Sunrise volunteer hours.

 

Watch for the rescheduled date for New Member Orientation.

 

Bowling for Kids is coming up on the first weekend in March. Each bowler needs to collect $125 in pledges. This is a great fundraiser for a worthwhile cause and tons o’ fun too. Spectators are encouraged to join in.

 

Ed Perry reminded us that the Bement Food Distribution for ECI Foodbank will be Saturday morning, February 9th at the Bement Municipal Building. Let Ed know if you can help.

 

The speaker for our April 4 meeting will be Danville Rotarian and Illinois Supreme Court Judge Rita Garman. This will be a great meeting for inviting guests and prospective Rotarians.

 

The 108th Rotary Anniversary celebration for area clubs will be held on February 20 at noon in the Round Barn Center. Check in starts at 11:45. We will not meet that week. You can pay your $10 at the door but reservations need to be in by February 14.

 

Program: Club Assembly

 

We met at our respective tables to brainstorm ideas for our 25th Anniversary celebration. Some of the results were:

*Partner in a project with businesses that opened in 1988 and are also having a Silver Anniversary .

*Have a 5K fun run with proceeds to go to a local charity.

*Have a car raffle event as a joint fundraiser and celebration.

*Sponsor a softball tournament.

*Combine the celebration with a new fundraiser.

*Have a dinner and silent auction and invite past members.

*Have a cookout with a tent and music in the Decker Garden. Do a 50/50 drawing to raise funds.

*Invite back past presidents to whatever event we plan.

*Bring the history of our club up to date. Interview past presidents and ask them “what was the highlight of your year?” Look in local archives for information. Get pictures from club members.

*Create a time capsule to be opened for our 50th anniversary.
