Today marks the second anniversary of the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, causing an estimated 230,000 people to lose their lives and leaving more than 1.5 million disaster survivors homeless.

This was by far the largest deployment of ShelterBoxes delivered to a single disaster-stricken area. Thanks to the tremendous amount of support from generous people around the world, more than 28,000 ShelterBoxes, including a total of 35,000 tents were delivered to families in need.

Despite the international community’s response to this enormous disaster, more than 500,000 people were still living in overcrowded camps on private land, seeking a place to call home. In partnership with the International Organization for Migration, ShelterBox has distributed tents and emergency equipment to these displaced families, helping them to return to their place of origin or set up homes in a new location they have identified.
