ShelterBox are currently monitoring the impact of an earthquake and subsequent tsunami warning on Indonesia.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported two quakes of 8.2 and 8.6 magnitude off the west coast of Northern Sumatra. The larger quake was recorded by USGS around 270 miles from Banda Aceh which was devastated by the tsunami on December 26, 2004. The effects of the quake have been felt throughout Indonesia and many coastal areas have seen residents fleeing for higher ground. ShelterBox is on standby to respond and holds prepositioned aid in the country for rapid deployment if required.

The ShelterBox Operations Team are monitoring the situation and we will circulate further information when the situation becomes clearer.
