“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ― Maya Angelou

Program

Jennifer Shelby presented a personal and professional look of the activities during her business trip to the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Permission must be applied for and granted to attend the various functions and perhaps even a chance to walk the red carpet (and illegally take photos).  Through her association as an executive producer with Shatterglass Films, the local award winning film and video production company (www.shatterglassfilms.com) they were granted permission to attend the festival.

Through the use of photos, even a selfie on the red carpet, Jen described the beauty of the French Riviera, the organizational lay out, activities, glamour and the sights and sounds that go with such an international festival. Staying in a small town just east of Cannes, Jen and members of Shatterglass Films could take a train to and from Cannes in a manner of minutes. Many modes of transportation were used by those attending the festival, including the use of a marina where you could park your yacht or one could moor a yacht out in the Mediterranean and arriving by boat or helicopter.

With the glamour of daily film premiers and the Red Carpet events there are the trade show activities, as well as the meeting, greeting and dealing with the powers in the film industry. Jennifer and the Shatterglass team were not only enjoying the festival but continually working to connect and spread the word on Shatterglass and its current projects. One of the projects they are currently working on is securing a director and crew for an upcoming film on Emmett Till, having just received the rights from Mamie Till’s estate.  Filming for this project will take place in Illinois, and Jen mentioned the potential opportunity for Rotarians to serve as extras (don’t call us, we’ll call you).

Jen gave a very informative presentation about what goes on during an international film festival along with the beauty of the area.
