The district is looking for a leader for the GSE team that is going to Romania.
Save the date! Veterans Day is November 11th, and Ata asked our members to invite a veteran to the dinner being held at the Hilton Garden Inn. Major General Melvin Spiese, USMC (Ret),is the keynote speaker. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois.
PROGRAM
Jessica DeYoung is program manager of C-U Special Rec, and to lead off the program, Reuben presented her with a $175 check from our club.
Special Rec is a cooperative effort of both the Champaign and Urbana park districts and is mostly funded through real estate taxes. It provides recreation for people with special needs. The staff is required to be degreed and certified. The staff is supplemented by 30+ part-time staff members and is a training ground for college students at the U of I, Parkland, and EIU.
Programs include pre-school, youth, teen, and adults. The October calendar has a family bingo night, a trip to the St. Louis Zoo, the Chicago Architectural Boat Tour, and trivia night along with many other regular programs. There are summer camps for various ages, outdoor athletic programs, martial arts, and practical programs for adults such as cooking classes. The focus of C-U Special Rec is inclusion in all activities.
