Summary:     At times, Rotary clubs can be left without a speaker shortly before their meeting.  The ShelterBox Rotary Relations Committee has developed a plan to provide two options to the Rotary Clubs for a quick speaker replacement option.  ShelterBox will promote this via the website and social media and post a 15-20 minute presentation online that clubs can download in addition to offering a speaker team ready to give presentations via skype on a short turn around.

Option 1:       The Downloadable Speaker Video will be made available on the ShelterBox USA website under the About Us Section in the Rotary section.  The presentation will include the history of ShelterBox, the 6 minute documentary video, stories from the field, and a call to action.

A draft video can be viewed at http://youtu.be/4Q6z7E0hm2w. If the committee likes this format, a more polished version of the video could be produced.

The organization will promote this option via the website, social media and when contacted for a speaker where there are no other speakers for 200 miles.

Option 2:       The Skype Speaker Option will be made available on the ShelterBox USA website under the About Us Section in the Rotary section.  Clubs can send an email to staff who can then contact a short list of speakers who have signed up to be on the “on-demand speaker team.” Once someone accepts the offer, they will coordinate directly with the program coordinator of the club to make arrangements for the presentation.

The speaker will then give the presentation with Skype which will have the option to show them speaking and the ability to share their screen and powerpoint presentation.

Staff will offer an “on-demand speaker” training on how to properly use Skype prior to having someone join the sub-team of Ambassadors.

Considerations for this method include:

  • Clubs need internet access at their club location
  • Clubs need computer, projector, screen and external speakers that are audible to the audience
  • Clubs & speaker should be ready to do the presentation by phone if technology goes wrong.
