Illini Rotaract will be hosting a cookout starting at 5:30pm on Tuesday, Oct 2nd at the Northwoods Pavilion in Crystal Lake Park. Stop by and meet the future of Rotary! (and some of it’s present and past, as Simpson and Perry will be there.)
Jim Gould became our newest member this morning. We all have known Jim ,Tanya and their family for many years. Jim is with SYSCO food service.
Chuck hosted an Illini Tailgate get together this past Saturday as we cheered the Illini on to a narrow defeat against Penn State!

Program
Ida Simila, our club’s Rotary Youth Exchange student from Finland, gave a wonderful program on her home country and family. Alan and Kristine Chalifoux, host family, introduced Ida to the club. Ida is from Laiha, Finland and presented information about her home country, the educational system and her extended family, her father farms, 100 hectare’s of wheat and potatoes, and her mother works in banking.
Finland gained independence from Russia in 1917 and currently has a population of 5.4 million. Ida shared several photos showing the natural beauty of Finland. She explained the educational system and the choices for higher education between college and technical schooling. Males are required to joint the military service and it is an option with females.
Ida is a junior at Champaign Central High School and recently took part in the High School’s homecoming festivities.
