Gary Olsen

Champaign architect and volunteer Gary Olsen has been recognized by international disaster relief organization ShelterBox for reaching a major fundraising milestone.

From a group of more than 350 ShelterBox USA Ambassador volunteers nationwide, Olsen also was named August’s Ambassador of the Month for actively raising funds and awareness for the organization through public engagements.

ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid, emergency tented shelter and other supplies, such as stoves, blankets and water filtration systems, to help families rebuild their lives after losing their homes and possessions in a disaster such as earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict.

Since joining the organization in 2004, Olsen has raised more than $100,000 for disaster survivors through presentations and displays at local events, including the Rotary International District 6490 conference this summer.
