PROGRAM
Last week’s speaker was District Governor Janet Ellis Nelson. Nelson is a Danville native, and she talked about her family history, her struggles, and the importance of hard work and education.
Before joining Champaign Rotary in 2014, she was the sponsor for the Interact Club at Centennial for 10 yrs. Her son was a youth exchange student to Japan in high school. When he came back, he later joined Rotary and served as the Rotary exchange liaison.
She told us about her humble beginnings to show that “Rotary helps ordinary people to do great things.”
In May 2021 Centennial created a scholarship award Janet Ellis Nelson award for those who have been involved with Interact.
She brought forms for Rotary Direct and spoke of how easy it is to donate, and in donating one can become a Paul Harris recipient. She called Robb Patton to the front to receive his Paul Harris pin and thanked him for donating.
GIVE THE GIFT OF ROTARY cards were also available.
Janet also reiterated the National President’s mantra mental health & wellness focus.
This year she has $46k to give in district in grants. She also has $300 to give away to Interact groups.
Janet encouraged members to attend the upcoming conference. There are two membership sessions and several speakers who will be very insightful.
She was impressed with our impactful service and challenged us to increase our membership.
There will be a Disaster response grant to Rotary clubs in Maui.
