Dave K., Chuck and his wife Lisa, John McDaniel, Andrew and myself helped distribute food for the EIFB in Hammond, IL. today. It was good for us to see how all the food and “re-pack” food is distributed. A lot of needy families out there.

We and many other volunteers from the area gathered at the Hammond Community Center starting at 8:30 am and helped set up tables, unload the food from EIFB’s truck, placed the various foods on the tables, handed out the food, and in many cases helped the people with gathering and carrying the food. Afterwards we helped load up any left over food back into the truck and clean up the Community Center. We finished up at 12:30. If you add the travel time to and from it was a long day, but no one complained. No one had done this before from our club and it made you proud to see how everyone just jumped in and helped as we usually do. It was a very satisfying experience for all of us.

Chuck recommended “The Blarney Stone” bar and grill in Ivesdale so we all stopped there on the way back home. Great time.

EIFB has another similar event in September and I’ll try to get more volunteers from the club next time as it is a great example of “Service above Self”.
