ANNOUNCEMENTS
(notes provided by the distinguished gentleman from Connecticut, Sir Edward Perry)
Ata gave a touching reflection with a tribute to Neal Chamberlain. Neal was a member of our club for many years and was truly a “service above self” individual.
This Thursday, June 3, our club will meet in person for breakfast. We will meet in the larger back room at Lodgic with breakfast served buffet style starting at 6:45am. The meeting will also be available via ZOOM. Mary Kay will send out a survey asking to please let her know if you plan on attending this meeting and later she will send out a survey asking for everyone’s feedback about the meeting. For the month of June, the breakfast meals will be at no cost.
Please let Mary Kay or a board member know who you recommend for future monthly bucket bucks.
PROGRAM
Cary introduced the speakers, April Ranger and Jenne Green from Washington D.C., who presented information about C-SPAN.
C-SPAN is funded by cable TV and satellite providers. Beginning in March 1979 with 3 employees, it first televised the House of Representatives session. Today the C-SPAN non-profit network includes television channels: C-SPAN (focusing on the House of Representatives), C-SPAN2 (focusing on the Senate) and C-SPAN3 (focusing on other government hearings and related programming), satellite and radio station WCSP-FM, and a group of websites which provide streaming media and archives of C-Span programs.
C-SPAN’s mission is to present live unfiltered news on current issues where you can make up your own mind. Started by cable TV, it was connected to 3.5 million homes beginning full time operations in 1982. Today C-Span is available to over 100 million cable and satellite connections within the United States and is available globally through Android and iOS devices and has 240 employees.
C-SPAN continues to grow with its public service of balanced coverage, multiple viewpoints, no commentary, non-bias reporting, live coverage, direct access, and viewer participation. To see and connect with what C-SPAN offers start with connecting to their website https://www.c-span.org/.
