CUSR received a Thank You letter for our club’s recent participation in the Saturday Home Build that benefited Habitat for Humanity.

Save the Date of Friday, October 18, 2013 for the CASAblanca Fall Gala.  Dinner and movie at the I Hotel, proceeds are in support of Champaign County CASA.

Keith Brandau was introduced by President Chuck as CUSR’s new member of our club.  Highlights of Keith’s life and career are:

Has two children in college. Oldest son is a senior at the UI studying history and youngest son is a sophomore at ISU studying marketing.  Lead Structural Engineer with Fehr Graham in Champaign.  Graduate of UI with BS and MS in Civil Engineering.  Enjoys golf, fishing, camping and rental property projects.  Classification will be Structural Engineer – Municipal.  Goes on an annual fishing trip to Canada with family and friends that he talks about too much.  Was born and raised in Dixon, IL, the hometown of Ronald Reagan.  Engineering is a family tradition. Father, brother-in-law and a nephew all graduated from the UI in engineering. Two nephews are currently studying engineering at the University of Michigan.

 

Program

Our speaker, John Eby was introduced by Kris Young.  John serves as the Activity Program Manager at Parkland College .  John described the many tours which he organizes and conducts.  These tours are organized such that participants can enjoy their specific interest such as:

Ethnic Food – Travel to Chicago to the “Ethiopia Grocery Store” and to other ethnic food points of interest (in the Chicago area) including Bosnian, Persian, Romanian, Swedish and Indian.

Architectural – A scale model of Chicago at the Architectural Foundation.

River Cruise – More enjoyable than anything in Chicago except going to Wrigley to see the Cubs beat the Cards.

Art Institute of Chicago – Second largest art museum in the U.S.

Tiffany Treasure Tour – Tour of the beautiful Windows and Mosaics of the Chicago.

The Unique and Unknown – The Center Instructive and Outside Art.

The Roger Brown Study Collection – A Chicago Imaginist.

Oak Park – (Frank Lloyd Wright), Lizzardro Museum of Lapidary Art, Elmhurst Art Museum.

Indianapolis Museum of Art – Eighth Largest in U.S.

St Louis – Tour of the Hill.
