PROGRAM
Phyllis introduced Dr. Peter Schiffer, Vice Chancellor of Research at the University of Illinois.   Dr. Shiffer came from Penn State one year ago. He pointed out that the University of Illinois is consistently among the top universities in NSF funded research and development activities.   The Research Park operations annually contribute $1.3 million in tax revenues to Champaign County and $4.1 million to the State of Illinois.
The Vice Chancellor for Research provides leadership and oversight to ensure the productive, safe and ethical conduct of research at the University.   His office oversees four big institutes on campus.
At the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, interdisciplinary research is done in the areas of physical science, computation, engineering, biology, behavior, cognition and neuroscience.
The Prairie Research Institute includes the former State Surveys, Natural History, Archaeology and the Water Surveys as well as Sustainable Technology.  The Prairie Research Institute has a separate budget from the main budget of the University.
The Institute for Genomic Biology hosts integrated genomics based research in energy use and production.   They have large grant funding from NASA and BP.
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications enables scientists to develop simulations and study models that cannot be physically created in labs. They developed Mosaic, the first web browser, in 1983.  NCSA is home to Blue Waters, which employs 250.

President Chuck Reifsteck, aka Chuck the Terrible, presents member Phyllis Mischo with her Paul Harris Fellow pin and certificate.  Congratulations and thank you, Phyllis.
