“Be disciplined about what you respond and react to. Not everyone or everything deserves your time, energy, and attention. Stay in your light.” – Lalah Delia – Writer

“You can and should set your own limits and clearly articulate them. This takes courage, but it is also liberating and empowering, and often earns you new respect.” – Rosalind Brewer – American Businesswoman

“We have to give ourselves permission to fall down and to have missteps and set-backs in order to grow and be unapologetic about our journey.” – Thasunda Brown Duckett – American Businesswoman

ANNOUNCEMENTS

(notes provided by the unorthodox and unconventional Paul Conforti)

Former C-U Sunrise Rotarian Benny Lapid made a special appearance while he is in town for a photography job.

Mary’s reflection was a heartfelt tribute to Neal Chamberlain, and about the connectedness of Rotary throughout the lives of friends and family of all Rotarians, even after they are not here with us anymore.

We will have an End of Rotary Year Social from 5-7pm on Thursday, 6/24/21 at the home of Mary Kay and Charlie Smith. The address is 1607 Sandpiper Ct, Champaign.

Mary Kay, on behalf of CU Sunrise, made a giant check presentation to Champaign Central High School graduate Kyleah Rogers in the amount of $1,500. Kyleah has been accepted to UIUC.

District Governor Mike Step honored Paul Harris Fellows, including:

Vicki Patton (on behalf of Rob Patton)

Mary Kay Smith (+1)

Bob LaCharite (+2)

Charlie Smith (+3)

Allan Penwell (+4)

PROGRAM

District Governor Mike talked about several satellite clubs in our district. Satellite clubs are clubs that form with under 20 members. Satellite clubs function similar to regular clubs but can have modified procedures. One such club serves Downs/LeRoy where members can bring friends and family. Another satellite club in Bloomington meets twice per month. Called the Pub Club, the first meeting of the month is held in a pub in which a project is planned, and the second meeting is the project.

Special Recognition: Mike explained that a District Governor can recognize outstanding contributions to a club, to a district and to Rotaries around the world. Mike presented to Phyllis the District Governor’s award for her inspirational service above self to our club and district.

Mike presented Phyllis with a certificate and a local artisan made (Paris, IL) inscribed glass Rotary mug painted with the Rotary colors representing opening the doors of opportunity.
