PROGRAM

Ondine introduced Jon L. Seydl as today’s speaker. Jon is the Director of the University of Illinois’ Krannert Art Museum. Jon became the director in 2018, and comes here after serving as the senior director of collections and programs of European Art at the Worcester Art Museum. He has a Master’s and PhD in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Yale.

Jon began today’s program with a history of the University of Illinois’ Art Museum pointing to key years of growth which have led to the Krannert Art Museum (KAM) becoming the second largest general art museum in the State of Illinois.  KAM continues to have the dual purpose of serving both the University and the Community. KAM’s vast and varied collections of art, online collection access, continual changing of exhibitions, research and lab work, cross campus sharing and teaching activities makes it a valued member on campus and to the community. Jon has been leading KAM to be more open, keeping in touch and displaying all current art forms and more welcoming to all. His new focus is on disability culture.

This past year the museum has been closed due to the pandemic, but is now back open to the public from 10am to 4pm Tuesday through Saturday. Through its sponsors, donations and membership programs, KAM continues to grow and evolve to meet the today’s needs of the University and Community.
