Former Rotarian Molly Delaney visited our club. She announced that 2018 is the 30th anniversary of the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation. On April 14, 2018 there will be a gala where three distinguished honorees for this year will be celebrated. You can sign up through the website or call 217.398.2873. Molly also noted that she is leaving the Foundation and moving over to the  Eastern Illinois Foodbank.

 

Tod asked for clean-up volunteers for the men’s’ shelter. Call him if you would like to help but did not sign the form he passed around. Bowling for Big Brothers Big Sisters is on April 6th.

 

PROGRAM

Mark Johnson, CEO of the Stephens Family YMCA, was our speaker last week. Mark was a wrestling coach for 30 years, 17 of which was as head coach at the University of Illinois. He is retiring in April and will be involved with The Beat the Streets Wrestling Program in Chicago as well as some national wrestling associations.

 

After wrestling Mark was recruited by the Y and raised $18 million to build the building in Southwest Champaign. Membership rose from 2,000 to 13,000 members, and there are building plans to expand further.

 

Mark gave an inspiring speech about his career, his life, and the work of the YMCA.
